Post Letter: Fest-goers should respect safety of everyone

I want to just pose a question to all the students and partiers that attended Palmerfest this past Saturday: How stupid can you be?

I understand that it is springtime and this campus is known for the parties that the streets throw. But I would have thought people would have learned their lesson from last year's near- riot at Palmerfest. Once again, a couch was burned and bottles were thrown at officers and their horses. This caused it to shut down, much like last year. Even High Fest this year was shut down for fires in the streets.

Now some seniors and new residents of these streets are probably saying, We want to top last year. This year

we are hosting it and it will be the best yet. That mentality is fine. But if you keep trying to top last year's with violence and fire, somewhere it will become too much and things will spiral out of control. People can blame the police presence for the partiers wanting to rebel, but I think it would be much worse if they were not there.

So by all means, continue to party. You have the right to enjoy the weather and your time here. But please, keep it safe and stop doing such stupid stunts that could cause harm to everybody.
