Post Letter: Limited parking stirs campuswide backlash

Reading a letter to the editor in last week's paper about the lack of parking space throughout Athens and on the campus, I felt the need to write a follow up. This is an issue the city or campus councils needs to address and realize is a constant issue. I am a freshman here at OU and am not allowed to have a car on campus due to the lack of spaces; also my friends and family have nowhere to park when they visit without paying a huge meter bill.

I'm not the only one who feels this is a problem, I was glad to see a letter in the paper with someone else expressing concern for this constant annoying issue. My fellow peers and faculty seem to have noticed this problem and are wishing for a solution.

The city seems to have no problem with hiring extra meter maids to ensure they catch every victim with zero time on the meter, rather than looking at a possible solution. The city is money hungry and parking tickets are a way it rakes in money from poor college students and those who visit them.

The student body and residents of Athens need make sure this issue is addressed. We must speak up and demand a solution to this annoying problem the city sees as a money machine.

Ryan Mounts is a freshman studying pre-nursing.
