Dear Ohio University students who thought that lighting a couch on fire during Palmerfest and/or celebrated said fire:
I'm writing this letter to remind you of the dangerous precedents that are set by your actions. Not only do you ruin the reputation of this university to the rest of the academic world, the professional world, and, in many ways, the real world; you ruin the college experience for the rest of us.
The City of Athens and the university are going to see a need to start clamping down on events like this. Many have warned you before about the dangers of these actions and you have failed to listen. As was the case last year and at Highfest, I refuse to condone these actions and I hope that other students follow suit. If/when this happens, do not complain to me about what the city has done. You have burned your couch and now you must lie in its ashes.
