John Maykut, a sophomore studying biology, broke into Nelson Dining Hall through the roof early Sunday morning, according to court documents. Maykut was spotted inside the dining hall holding an employee hat.
Brandon King of OUPD responded to an activated alarm at the dining hall. King made the arrest at 2:45 Sunday morning. Maykut was charged with one count of breaking and entering. The offense was
alcohol-related, according to police reports.
Maykut appeared before Athens County Municipal Court Judge William Grim Monday. He is due back in court at 2 p.m. May 25.
Breaking and entering is a fifth degree felony. Maykut could spend a maximum of 12 months in prison and pay a maximum fine of $2,500 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
