according to the police report.
Ohio University police arrested five students and charged two with felonious assault early Tuesday morning after the students almost hit two officers with a bottle bomb according to the police report.
At about midnight, OU officers received a phone call from a passerby saying someone had thrown a bottle bomb from a fourth floor window in Pickering Hall. The two responding officers found chemical residue on the ground. As they surveyed the area, another bottle was thrown from a window and exploded near the officers, according to the report.
We are very grateful the officers were not seriously hurt said OU Police Chief Andrew Powers, adding that both were able to jump out of the way but one officer felt a mild burning sensation around his eyes, nose and mouth.
Powers described the bottle bomb as a mixture of chemicals in a plastic bottle but declined to say what chemicals were used.
Police charged both Christopher Babics, 19, and Sean O'Leary, 19, with two counts of felonious assault and two counts of aggravated arson. They, along with Michael Gibson, 18; Angel Senquiz, 18; and Nicholas Straight, 19, were charged with one count of possession of dangerous ordinance and illegal manufacturing or processing of explosives. All of the charges are classified as felonies.
All five arrestees are residents of Pickering Hall. Their cases are pending in Athens County Municipal Court.
