The coming-out party of Taylor Brown continued this weekend, and it came just in time for the Bobcats.
With less than 15 minutes to go against Indiana on Saturday, Brown knocked in her sixth goal of the season off a rebound. The score gave Ohio a 2-1 lead it would not relinquish.
The Bobcats improved to 2-5 after falling 4-2 to California on Friday. Coach Neil Macmillan was pleased with the way Ohio bounced back against the Hoosiers.
Our whole energy was on a different level
he said. We talked about the need to stay positive the need to get ourselves back to playing the hockey we know we can.
The Bobcats were on the attack from the start of the match against Indiana, with senior Paige Herr scoring her first goal of the season less than two minutes into the game.
The Hoosiers tied the game in the 39th minute, however. Shareyna Chang scored as the ball was deflected off a Bobcat defender and past goalie Courtney Seiders.
The match was knotted at one until Brown's broke the tie.
At practice we did a lot of work in shooting and scoring said Brown, a sophomore. (The coaches) encourage us to keep our energy up.
That's what we did this weekend. We just went for the goal.
The surge in offense was a welcome sight to the Bobcats after they were shut out twice last weekend.
Our attack was much, much better this weekend, said Macmillan. Had we done that the last weekend we would have won those two games as well.
Freshman Jessica Jue scored her first career goal in the 32nd minute of Friday's match.
The duo of Brown and Jue are part of the young nucleus of freshman and sophomores that constitutes much of Ohio's lineup. The Bobcats started six underclassmen during the Saturday match.
That's really exciting to see when you've got young players stepping up and stepping into the role and not relying on the seniors and older players, said Macmillan
.
They're growing into their own and it just helps your overall depth.
