Whatever was said between Ohio's matches last weekend, someone on the team probably should have written it down.
The Bobcats' 4-2 loss to California on Sept. 10, their fourth straight defeat, dropped the team's record to 1-5.
A week later, the Bobcats are nearing .500 as victories over Robert Morris and Richmond this weekend pushed their record to 4-5 and extended their winning streak to three games.
Ohio beat the Colonials 4-0 Friday in its first shutout of the season. The next day, the Bobcats revenged their NCAA Play-In game loss last year by defeating the Spiders 3-1.
Coach Neil Macmillan didn't say exactly what adjustments were made or what speeches were given to propel his team to a 2-1 win over Indiana after its loss to the Cal.
I think we all just looked at ourselves and recognized that we need to have a little bit more energy
Macmillan said. The team has such a great personality off the field and sometimes it doesn't come through when they're playing.
The coach added that the Bobcats communicate better when they play with that upbeat personality.
It makes it so much easier Macmillan said. Everyone's looking out for everyone's back. And everyone credits each other when they make excellent plays.
I think we did that a little bit at Indiana. We've tried to continue that.
Sophomore Andrea Biegalski who scored her first career goal off a rebound against Robert Morris
said the Bobcats have enjoyed themselves during matches lately.
I think out biggest change so far is that we're trying to have more fun on the field, Biegalski said. Our passes are connecting more and we're talking more. Just keeping our energy up has really helped us out.
Ohio certainly had its energy up on Friday against Robert Morris. The Bobcats dominated the ball for most of the game
out-shooting the Colonials 26-6.
In addition to Biegalski
Brooke Edwards
Jessica Jue and Cathryn Altdoerffer added goals. Edwards also had three assists against the Spiders on Sunday.
Brittany Zorn
Laura Mastro and Taylor Brown scored against Richmond. Brown leads the team with seven goals.
Though Ohio won by two goals yesterday
the Spiders out-shot the Bobcats 19-11. Goalie Courtney Seiders made a season-high 11 saves
topping her previous high of nine against Indiana last weekend.
The defense has been especially impressive of late considering it has been without its leader for most of the three-game win streak. Redshirt junior Louzeth Schutte was injured against the Hoosiers and has yet to return.
