Lavon Brazill returns this week to boost an aerial attack that was an afterthought against Wofford.
The wide receiver and punt returner will rejoin the lineup tomorrow for Ohio's Mid-American Conference opener against Toledo. The senior was held out of last week's game against Wofford with a leg injury.
Quarterback Boo Jackson said he's happy to see the senior back on the field.
He's been there coaching up every guy so each guy's getting better
Jackson said. I see a little bit of Lavon Brazill in other guys as well ... I feel like having him back is definitely good for our passing game.
Brazill caught 53 passes for 702 yards and six touchdowns last season, good enough for second on the team in all three categories. He also led the Football Bowl Subdivision with three punt-return touchdowns, which led to multiple media outlets naming him a preseason All-American this year.
I'm feeling great right now at practice Brazill said about returning to the field. I'm just happy to be back with my family and ready to make plays.
The Bobcats used their passing game sparingly against the Terriers. The combination of Jackson and Phil Bates completed only eight passes for 101 yards. But four different Bobcats rushed for 30 yards or more, and the team totaled 230 yards on the ground.
We really didn't need to pass that much because our running game was so efficient Jackson said. I feel like (Toledo is) going to be ready for that. They're going to try to stop our runs the best they can.
Jackson said Brazill adds another option to an already impressive receiving core, and the offense has a solid game plan to combat the Rockets' defense, which allowed 413 passing yards to Arizona last week.
We have a lot of weapons
he said. Watching the film of their game against Arizona
we feel we can get a couple routes in there.
Wide receiver Terrence McCrae caught one pass for four yards against Wofford. Although he might be one of the Bobcats' top receivers, McCrae said he doesn't mind taking a back seat if the running game keeps being successful.
Of course
being a receiver
I always like to see a couple passes my way
McCrae said jokingly. But as long as the ball's moving
I'm not complaining.
