Though he is now tenured, embattled Scripps School of Journalism professor Bill Reader is not yet out of troubled waters.
Reader, who began teaching at OU in 2002, argued that despite consistently positive performance reviews, administrators and other faculty members conspired to prevent him from receiving tenure, according to a previous Post article.
He underwent a lengthy tenure battle last year, in which both former Scripps School Director Tom Hodson and Scripps College Dean Greg Shepherd denied him tenure, but OU President Roderick McDavis granted tenure after Reader appealed.
Reader must still answer to allegations raised during his fight for tenure that he harassed several colleagues.
It's going forward according to the faculty handbook as far as I know; it's in the hands of the dean
Reader said.
Reader said he would be willing to speak about the process once it was completed but would stay silent for now.
I don't think it's appropriate to comment further for now he said.
Bob Stewart, the new Scripps director, said he has had no involvement with the case, as it is now in the hands of Shepherd.
It's already beyond my level Stewart said.
Shepherd said via e-mail the case will begin this fall.
The complaints filed against Professor Reader by three colleagues last year
and the subsequent investigation of those complaints by Brenda Noftz
will be forwarded to the College's Professional Ethics committee when it is convened this fall
in compliance with the procedures of the Faculty Handbook
Shepherd said.
