Tennessee twang band rocks Jackie O's

Mic Harrison and the High Notes took the small bar stage in Jackie O's, 24 W. Union St., last Thursday exemplifying a great stage presence. They're currently touring the country promoting their new album Great Commotion.

Beginning the show with a thank-you for coming

Harrison stood stocky and ready in his red plaid button down, blue jeans and off-yellow work boots.

The High Notes seemed to rely very much on the original sounds of Tom Petty, with an edgier dose of alternative pop providing significant backbone to many of their songs. Although this algorithm of blending classic Tennessee sounds and pop music does sound slightly risky, Harrison managed to find symbiotic harmony between many genres of music in his songs.

Mic Harrison and the High Notes seem to make music for the sole purpose of pleasing themselves and their fans. They are exemplarily talented musicians, but due to their unique and borderline obscure influences their music struggles to find a place on a real market due to it's bar-like background music feel.

As for the musicians themselves, Mic Harrison was born and raised in Tennessee, where throughout his life and his love for music he has jumped from many small time bands; that is, until he found work with the band Superdrag. After his work with Superdrag, he signed on with Real Much Records and began serious work with Mic Harrison and the High Notes.

Among the bands' other members are guitarist/vocalist Robbie Trosper, who signed on with Harrison in the band The Faults (one of Harrisons' bands in his earlier career), drummer Brad Henderson and bass player Vance Hillard.

In spite of the fact that Mic Harrison and the High Notes are not a huge pop band and don't have a huge label backing them, they definitely have a strong following in the form of fans. One of Harrison's fans stated, Mic Harrison has always been big to him back in the day and today also.

If you are a fan of southern style music or consider yourself a connoisseur of unique sounding bands, give Mic Harrison and the High Notes a peek. You may be surprised at how much they may offer you through their strong lyrics, harsh alternative riffs, and calming Tennessee twangs.
