Trimble falls short

Wahama's big play ability was just too much for the Tomcats to overcome.

Long pases combined with a few timely turnovers helped the Falcons (1-0) beat the Tomcats (0-2) 14-6 in Wahama's Tri-Valley Conference-Hocking debut.

Wahama's defensive line was dominant in the opening two quarters and was able to all but shut-down Trimble running back Tyler Dyla, limiting him to 35 yards.] in the opening 24 minutes

Trimble's defense, meanwhile, had no answer for Wahama's passing attack as Falcons quarterback Trenton Gibbs connected on passes of 56 and 33 yards and totaled 106 yards in the first half, as the Falcons took a 14-0 lead

After making some adjustments, Trimble came out firing in the second half, but a 49-yard drive stalled at Wahama's five yard line when the Tomcats failed to convert on a fourth down run.

Trimble finally broke through when Wahama's quarterback threw a pass right into the chest of Trimble 6-foot-6 defensive tackle Noah Guthrie, who rumbled 42 yards down the sideline to set up an eight-yard touchdown run by Dyla the next play

Dyla rushed for 75 yards in the second half and finished with 110 for the game.

We told the line they just had to block better

said Trimble head coach Phil Faires.

After Wahama dominaed play in the first half, Trimble controlled the tempo in the second half, but just couldn't get the game-tying score.

We were quicker but they wore us out in the second half Wahama head coach Ed Cromley said.

Dyla and company drove deep into Falcon territory and faced a fourth down with five yards to go from the 15 with only 8.6 seconds remaining.

Quarterback Charles Kish was intercepted on the ensuing play, ending the Tomcats' hopes.

We just couldn't get that score when we needed it

Faires said.

The Falcon rushing attack was led by Ryan Lee and Anthony Grimm who rushed for a combined 167 yards.

When you have an outside runner and inside runner like we do

it's hard to stop

Cromley said.
