A quick look at the score line of Ohio's series against the Goderich Sailors could easily be mistaken for a pair of football games.
The Bobcats swept Goderich this past weekend, winning 17-0 Friday night in the season-opener, and 13-0 Saturday.
Ohio head coach Dan Morris said the games were a good tune-up for his team, as well as an opportunity to evaluate some of the new players.
We had a high level of energy both nights and that's good to see
Morris said. We didn't get to work on a lot of things but we'll get to work on those in practice this week.
Zach Tisdale opened up the scoring less than three minutes into Saturday night's contest. Brett Agnew, Alex DiMassa, Tyler Pilmore and Michael Schultz had two goals apiece, while Zack Barbis, Zander Dover, Jared Fuhs and Ben Gilles also found the back of the net.
Gilles, a fringe player last season, had the most memorable goal of the evening. The junior defenseman received a pass from Billy Hemann on a 2-on-1 and, after a nifty backhand-to-forehand dangle, stuffed the puck between the post and the pads of Goderich netminder Jaden Schrier.
(Gilles) is a guy who's got to work his way to get in the lineup Morris said. It was his first goal as a Bobcat too -- even though it's his second year -- so it was a nice goal and it's nice to see Benny get that.
Morris used Saturday night as a chance to give his two freshmen goaltenders Bryan Danczak and Fedor Teddy Dushkin some time in net after senior Blake MacNicol got the shutout Friday night. The combo turned away all 17 Goderich shots.
Duskin started the first period and played until around the 12-minute mark in the second. Danczak came in at that point, and looked strong when tested. He stoned Goderich winger Brett Austin on a breakaway in the third and showed quick feet with a couple of kick saves.
Later in the game they got a few more chances
so
Bryan looked good. Teddy looked good right before he came out
Morris said. We're happy with both their efforts.
The No. 3 ranked Bobcats will face tougher competition this week as they open up American Collegiate Hockey Association play against No. 16 Davenport Friday.
