MAC Notebook: Teams see different outcomes after quarterback switches

A few teams in the Mid-American Conference made changes at quarterback and saw mixed results.

Temple exploded in its first quarter for 21 points against Buffalo and went on to win 42-0.

Temple backup quarterback Mike Gerardi played in his second game of the season. He threw for 131 yards and three touchdowns, two of which were caught by wide receiver Rod Streater.

(I'm) pleased with Mike Gerardi's response after throwing an interception early in the game

and that's when he really showed leadership when the pressure is on and when you make a mistake Temple coach Al Golden said in the MAC teleconference. I thought he managed it well.

The duo of Bernard Pierce and Matt Brown had matching 100+ yard games for Temple. Pierce added two touchdowns.

Buffalo, however, could not find answers to its woes at the quarterback position.

Jerry Davis, who has been intercepted 12 times on the year, was benched and replaced by Alex Zordich, who subsequently threw three interceptions.

Last week, the running game was responsible for all of Kent State's touchdowns against Toledo. But this time, the passing game keyed a 30-6 victory for the Golden Flashes against Bowling Green.

Golden Flash quarterback Spencer Keith threw for 223 and two touchdowns. He added a touchdown on the ground as well.

The Kent State defense remained one of the conference's best. It intercepted two passes and did not give up a touchdown. The Falcons' only score came on a kickoff return midway through the first quarter, but the point-after attempt was blocked.

Toledo managed another win in comeback fashion to keep its conference record at 4-0, as it beat Ball State, 31-24.

Comeback-from-behind wins has been something that has been used here quite a bit in Toledo the last couple of weeks

coach Tim Beckman said in the teleconference. We have to start out faster; there is no question about that.

Ball State got on the scoreboard early with a field goal and two Keith Wenning touchdown passes to make it 17-0. Those would be the last points the Cardinals would put on the board until the fourth quarter.

Rocket quarterback Austin Dantin completed 14 of 18 passes for 197 yards and threw for one touchdown. He added two more touchdowns on the ground.
