McDavis joins colleagues to shape future of higher education in US

Ohio University President Roderick McDavis will join other educators in studying what globalization means for the future of education.

McDavis has been named to the American Council on Education (ACE) Blue Ribbon Panel on Global Engagement, according to an OU news release. ACE formed the panel to develop an understanding of the impact of globalization on higher education in the United States because more students are studying internationally, according to the release.

I am very honored to represent Ohio University and to serve with nationally and internationally respected colleagues to shape the future of higher education

McDavis said in the news release. It will take the work and commitment of all of us to ensure higher education's relevancy and future in the 21st century.

The panel will be a way for McDavis to contribute OU's experiences to a larger discussion, said Becky Watts, McDavis' chief of staff.

(The committee) will be an opportunity for him to share his expertise and successes OU has had with global engagement ... and an opportunity to learn from others and brainstorm Watts said.

The panel will meet regularly during this academic year and will release recommendations on how to promote American higher education to ACE members and higher education stakeholders by next fall, the release said.

Watts said the panel will require McDavis to travel, but he will attempt to cut down on expenses by combining trips.

He can combine (trips) with other things he does for the university Watts said, noting McDavis already makes trips for University Advancement and alumni relations.

New York University President and ACE Board Chair John Sexton will chair the panel, according to the release.
