Even though the Bobcats finished 10th in their last event of 2010, much was to be desired after not finishing higher than ninth all season.
It's upsetting
said senior captain Chuck Nettles, It starts with me I've been underperforming and this is my senior year and I'm not leading by example on the golf course.
Las Colinas was a tough course for all schools as no team finished better than 17-over par, however Nettles says that is no excuse.
It was definitely a tougher course than what we usually play and we don't usually see a course with trouble on both sides he said, we're not used to putting on grainy grass
but that's no excuse.
Brad Lucas was Ohio's top scorer in the event finishing the weekend shooting a 12-over-228, which tied him for 22nd place. Other scores for Ohio included Paul Grauer's 15-over-par 231, John Mlynarski's 24-over-par 240, Nettles'25-over-par 241 and Byron Firestone's 26-over-par 242.
A poor performance in the short game hurt the Bobcats over the weekend and has been a thorn in the side all season however in this event, everything was going wrong for Ohio.
You know Paul's playing good and then just falls apart at the end
said coach Bob Cooley, and Brad makes two triples you know those things just don't happen.
Ohio finished the first two rounds of the Mission Inn in seventh place but after a 26-over-314 output in the final round the Bobcats dropped to tenth.
I was disappointed in the way we played
said Cooley, We're better than that. With the Mission Classic being the last event of the fall season for Ohio, it presents a halfway point in which the team can look back on their performance so far and also look ahead to the spring.
I'm seeing some good things happening
said Cooley, I think were making progress
but we've still got a long ways to go.
Johnson & Wales University- Florida won the event shooting a team effort 17-over-par 881. Evan Beirne of St. John's University won the individual title shooting a three-round-total 6-under-par 210.
