Inexperience and inconsistency hurt the Bobcats' chances of moving up during the final day of the UC Bearcat Invitational.
We played real well in spurts again today
and then we didn't finish very well said Ohio coach Bob Cooley, I thought we were going to be eying 290 but we ended up with 305.
Ohio finished the two-day event shooting a 52-over-916, which placed the golf team in 15th for the tournament.
Paul Grauer's 12-over-228 was the best effort for a Bobcat in the event. Other scores included John Mlynarski's 13-over-229. Byron Firestone shot a 15-over-231, including an even par performance during the final round. Chuck Nettles posted an 18-over-234, and Brad Lucas shot a 22-over-238 to round out the scoring for Ohio.
Problems in the short game, a common occurrence that has plagued the Bobcats all season, once again presented difficulties for Ohio.
I mean it's a hard golf course
and that's not an excuse; it's just they have big rolling greens and were just not used to putting on big rolling greens because we don't have any place to practice on big rolling greens
Cooley said.
Ohio finished Monday's first round in a three-way tie for 12th place and was only three strokes off seventh place and 13 strokes off the lead.
John Mlynarski and Paul Grauer led all Ohio golfers during round one with 2-over-74's, which tied them for 24th overall.
Darkness ended second round play of the 2010 UC Bearcat Invitational four holes early Monday, which subsequently caused Tuesday's round to begin at 8:30 rather than 9:00.
Oakland University won the 2010 Bearcat Invitational, shooting a team score of 7-over-871. The Mid-American Conference's Jeff Dick of Northern Illinois won the individual title shooting a three round score of 209 (-7).
The UC Bearcat Invitational was played at Traditions Golf Club, a par-72, 7,103-yard course.
