The same inconsistent Bobcats from the regular season showed up to the league tournament this weekend.
One day after beating Ball State 5-0, the Bobcats were shut out against Miami in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The RedHawks won 3-0 Friday to prevent Ohio from reaching the finals for a fifth consecutive year.
The game brought to mind a recurring nightmare for Ohio this season, in which the Bobcats piled up shots but struggled to find the back of the net.
Our finishing has been up and down
coach Neil Macmillan said. Someone was joking with me that we used up all our goals (against Ball State).
Maybe we did, but that's a microcosm of the season. You have a great day (Thursday) and put five in, and then turn around and score none (Friday). It's tough, but that's how it happens sometimes.
Led by redshirt junior Louzeth Schutte's five shots Ohio out-shot the RedHawks 13-7. It earned 10 corners and Miami notched three.
But the Bobcats who unveiled new plays against the RedHawks
could not score on Miami's corner defense.
The sad thing was, the first half of the game we did a good job of keeping them down at their end for the most part, Macmillan said. We unfortunately gave them fast-break opportunities, and they either created a corner or created a goal-scoring opportunity.
The Bobcats showed both the ability to light up the scoreboard and leave it blank this season.
Aug. 31
they followed a 6-1 win over Saint Louis with a 2-1 overtime loss to Ohio State.
Ohio blew out Ball State

at home Sept. 26
then traveled to Central Michigan and lost
2-1.
Despite failing to grab a top-two seed and a first-round bye in the MAC Tournament
Macmillan said the team believed it could win a second consecutive league title.
The MAC was there to be taken by any of the top-three teams, Macmillan said. We felt we had as good a chance as any, but we didn't do ourselves justice in the last game.
Kent State defeated Miami yesterday to capture the MAC title.
