MAC Notebook: Quarterback performance provides mixed results

The Mid-American Conference has seen its share of comebacks this season, and this weekend had similar results.

Central Michigan completed its 26-22 comeback against in-state rival Western Michigan.

It was pretty disheartening

but it's college football - you have to pick yourself up and get ready for the next one because we are playing another rival in Eastern Michigan coach Bill Cubit said in the MAC teleconference.

Both teams saw impressive play from their quarterbacks.

Bronco quarterback Alex Carder threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with receiver Jordan White for two of them.

Chippewas quarterback Ryan Radcliff connected with his receivers for two touchdowns, but he also threw an interception. He threw for 300 yards for the game.

The Chippewas scored the game's final 13 points to earn their third win of the season.

Central Michigan completed the comeback, but Akron could not hold on to the victory and eventually lost 37-30 in overtime.

Cardinals quarterback Keith Wenning found receiver Jack Tomlinson for two of his three touchdown passes. The final one came in the second overtime to seal the victory for the Cardinals.

Wenning also threw three interceptions on the game.

We did a lot of things wrong

but we hung and kept going

coach Stan Parrish said in the teleconference. We were two struggling teams

they (Akron) really played their hearts out

and we were fortunate to come out on top.

Zips quarterback Patrick Nicely threw for 178 yards and four touchdowns to go with three interceptions.

Kent State leads the conference in total defense allowing only 298.8 yards per game. But last weekend against Temple, the Golden Flashes surrendered 465 yards in the 28-10 loss.

Temple quarterback Mike Gerardi threw for 368 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for another touchdown on his way to being selected as the player of the week in the MAC East.

The Golden Flashes vaunted run defense did their job, holding Temple running back Bernard Pierce to a sub 100-yard game, but Pierce was able to punch in a touchdown in the Owl victory.
