The renewed rivalry between the Bobcats and Ohio State did not go Ohio's way. Ohio lost to Ohio State by more than 100 points, with a final score of 213 - 87.
I feel like that was a good competition for us in that it showed us where we're at
said coach Greg Werner. It showed us where we're at in comparison to a very good Big Ten school.
Although the Buckeyes won by a landslide, Werner said he is not worried about the final results.
(Ohio State) has a lot of NCAA qualifiers on their team and we have aspirations to send people to NCAA championships he said. So it shows us where we are at in comparison to them
at least at this point in time.
The Bobcats managed to pull off two victories at the end of the meet, making it not a total bust. Rachel Heim won the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 55.60. In addition to that, Ohio finished first in the last event, the 200-yard free relay.
Rachel Heim went out against some very good butterflyers and NCAA qualifiers
Werner said. To win that race was tremendous...you always want to win the last event. To win the last event against a very good sprint relay team like the one from Ohio State
it's very nice.
Werner said he is anxious to see how the team responds to this meet in upcoming practices.
Taking a step backward and looking at things
in comparison to them
we had a lot of good performances
he said.
Besides her two first-place finishes, Heim placed second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:53.85. Annie Donovan finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.82.
Lindsay Hamilton finished second in both one-meter diving and three-meter diving.
Megan Gegesky required medical attention during the meet because of back problems.
There are times when it's good and there are times when it just shuts down on her
Werner said. And it shut down on her today. All we can do is continue what we are doing - ice it
and she'll have a cortisone shot when she goes home.
