Yellow Light Maybe, a pop-rock band from Columbus, will be playing at Jackie O's tonight - a change of scenery from its familiar Athens home, the now-closed 19 South.
The band, which is made up mostly of 2006 Ohio University graduates and still has a presence in Athens, has been touring the Midwest recently.
Our last time in Athens
we had about 200 people packed into a bar singing along with us said PJ Schreiner, the band's drummer. To have people sing along is a big deal for us. We have good fans in Cleveland and Columbus but there is nothing like Athens.
While in Athens, Yellow Light Maybe was primarily a cover band, but also had a stint as Red Brick's house band. Since leaving, Yellow LigThree Story, 2008's Carry On and 2010's More of the World.
Yellow Light Maybe plans to play tracks from an unreleased EP.
We just started recording again a week or two ago
Schreiner said It's expected to be released around April or May
but is far from the mixing stage.
Yellow Light Maybe, which is signed to Columbus-based Secret Song Records, views recording as a learning process that helps it grow as a band.
Although it plans to return to Athens frequently, Yellow Light Maybe is trying to break into the Columbus music scene.
It's a hard cookie to crack; you have to work your way into these pre-formed cliques
Schreiner said. But it's home to us now
and we'd like to grow in this community.
The band hasn't strayed far from its Athens attitude and hospitality.
If you're a fan or never heard of us before
please come check it out
said Schreiner. We just like drinking and having a good time.
