A car crash early Friday morning left a Columbus-area man dead and an Ohio University student injured after their vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Kenneth Ryan Thompson, 19, of Grove City, was pronounced dead at the scene, which occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Township Road 605 in Canaan Township in Athens County, according to the Athens Post of the State Highway Patrol.
The crash hospitalized OU junior James Nally, 19, of Athens, who was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with non-life threatening injuries.
Hospital officials said Nally was discharged Friday afternoon.
The State Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash to determine who was driving the vehicle. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
