A man who escaped from an Athens mental hospital early yesterday morning was found later that afternoon and taken into custody.
Reuben Gillian, a 27-year-old patient at Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare, a mental health hospital, fled the grounds at about 3:30 a.m., said Sergeant Pat McDonald of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Gillian was found at 4:25 p.m., hiding behind a Pepsi machine on West Union Street and was arrested, said an official at the Athens Police Department.
Gillian was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail where he is being held on multiple warrants for his arrest issued in several counties, as well as an escape warrant, the official said.
He was found with a significant amount of money, but officers are unsure of its origin, the official said.
Officials at Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare, located near O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, would not comment on Gillian's escape.
Gillian was formerly arrested in October for burglary, according to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail's website.
McDonald was not able to release any of the patient's past history.
