Fraternity men involved in altercation

A member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was charged with assault yesterday after allegedly punching a fellow member in the face earlier this month.

Ohio University sophomore Cameron Guild, 20, was charged with assault after allegedly punching fellow fraternity member and OU freshman Nick Wood, 19, in the face Jan. 15.

The incident occurred on East Washington Street, where the fraternity house is located - although, it is unclear if the altercation occurred inside or outside the house, according to an Athens Police report.

Wood was treated at a medical facility near his home and has since returned to school, according to the report.

Neither Guild nor Wood live in the fraternity house.

Wood is listed as the president of the fraternity's fall pledge class on its website, but it is unclear if he is an initiated member of the fraternity.

Sigma Phi Epsilon President Ryan Pfefferle declined to comment.

The fraternity will face repercussions only if officials believe or an individual claims the incident occurred as part of a group event or activity, said Ryan Lombardi, OU's dean of students.

As of yesterday afternoon no reports regarding the incident had been filed with OU Judiciaries, Lombardi said.

Guild's arraignment will be held in Athens County Municipal Court Feb. 1.
