Hockey: Bobcats moving toward series sweep after win

After 15 consecutive wins, the Ohio hockey team has become used to dominating performances. That's exactly what they got Saturday night.

Ohio (21-3-2) followed up a seven-goal performance Friday night with another

impressive performance Saturday night in route to a 6-1 win and a series sweep over Indiana (8-20-0).

With the win, the Bobcats have now won 18 of their last 19 games and have not suffered a regulation loss since Oct. 22.

We're playing well right now

Ohio coach Dan Morris said. Now that we're going into the final third of our season we want to try and get everything in place. Every weekend is tough for us through the rest of the year. We've got our work cut out for us the rest of the way.

After a slow start Friday night, the Bobcats didn't wait long to get on the scoreboard Saturday as they took the lead only 22 seconds into the first period when Billy Hemann netted his sixth goal of the year.

An Indiana penalty midway through the first period led to another Ohio goal as defenseman Jonathan Gulch buried a goal off the crossbar to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.

Indiana scored seconds later to pull within one, but Ohio would quickly answer. Jared Fuhs scored his seventh of the year to give Ohio the 3-1 lead.

Three more goals in the second period were enough to put Indiana away, and a scoreless third period led to the 6-1 final.

Backup goaltender Fedor Dushkin got the start between the pipes for Ohio and made 22 saves in the win.

Morris said it was nice to get Dushkin some work as well as give starting goaltender Blake MacNicol a rare rest.

Five different players scored for the Bobcats, and nine different players recorded a point. Morris called the win a total team effort.

We work to spread the wealth around and make sure that we're not one-dimensional he said. We like to have a bunch of different options

and tonight we had a bunch of different guys on the scoreboard.

The only player to score twice for Ohio was forward Jared Fuhs, who was filling in for Tyler Pilmore on the Bobcats' top line.

Last night (Fuhs) was a little shaky with his responsibility

but tonight he seemed more comfortable

and I think we saw the results offensively

Morris said.
