Sister act set for Casa

Growing up in a family with musical influences on both sides, sisters Meagan and Amy Alwood realized performing was in their blood.

We would always listen to our mom's records and make up dances in the mirror

and I was writing songs at a really young age Meagan Alwood said. And we've always kind of done stuff together too ... There was music on both sides of our family but our father was the most prominent.

Their father was Bob Alwood, a singer-songwriter who performed heavily in Columbus until his death when Meagan and Amy were young.

We always heard stories about how he was a rock star and we just kind of got led that way Meagan said.

Jovan and Milan Karcic, two brothers who also come from a long line of musicians, join Meagan and Amy in their band, Alwood Sisters. The quartet will perform tomorrow at Casa Nueva.

Milan is my husband and Jovan is Amy's husband

Meagan said. We've all had this connection for a long time and it just formed musically and it works out really well.

Although Meagan is sometimes apprehensive about performing live, she said that she hopes the band's performances can help open the audience's eyes to new styles of music.

I actually find (live shows) really stressful

but I really enjoy being able to share music with people

Meagan said

The band, which plays a subtle style of rock and roll with psychedelic and pop influences, thrives on being made up of family members.

We all get along really well and have a lot of respect for each other

so it just works out really well

Meagan said. Amy and Jovan and Milan are my favorite people to be around

and I think the feeling is mutual for them

too.

Meagan said performing with the people she is closest to has not posed any difficulties so far, and being around them often is very important to her.

I think

just in general in the world
