A committee on sustainability will be created next week if a newly-drafted resolution is approved by Ohio University's Student Senate.
The resolution has yet to be approved by senate's Rules and Procedures Committee. It will be up for a vote by Wednesday at the earliest, said senate President Jesse Neader.
It's creating a committee in which the sole purpose is to look at sustainability efforts and to keep (OU President) Roderick McDavis's statement that we want to move to renewable energy sooner rather than later
he said.
The new committee would include members of various environmental groups on campus, including Sierra Student Coalition and the Beyond Coal Campaign, both of which gave a presentation during Wednesday's meeting. It would be headed by Joshua Felker, senate's director of sustainability, Neader said.
The director of sustainability is the senate's liaison to the university's Office of Sustainability, and Neader said the committee would allow more student opinions to get to OU administrators.
The resolution was originally sponsored by former Senator Matthew Wallace, who resigned this week. A new sponsor will be chosen before it is presented to senate for a vote.
