Women's Basketball: 'Cats move on, prepare to face Huskies

Today is a new day.

That is the philosophy of coach Semeka Randall as she readies her Bobcats for their upcoming game against Northern Illinois.

Ohio is back in action tomorrow at the Convo, where the team will pick up the pieces of its last game, a devastating 85-40 loss to Eastern Michigan. And to add another blow to the loss, the team might once again play without Tenishia Benson.

Randall compared Benson's loss to the how much the Cleveland Cavaliers have struggled without their former star player.

I'm very careful when I say this ... (but) I try to put things into perspective of what we are going through as when the Cavaliers lost LeBron (James)

said Randall. They depended on him tremendously in all sorts of ways and that's what Tenishia brings to our team.

Benson is currently on a day-to-day basis with her eye injury, which she sustained last weekend in the game against Buffalo.

The Bobcats look to move past a forgettable game against Eastern Michigan. Ohio had 30 turnovers, shot 24 percent from the field and trailed by 28 at halftime.

It was just one of those games where everything went wrong from start to finish Randall said. And now what are we going to do? Are (we) going to stay in that moment or move past it?

Moving forward is the only option for Ohio (6-14, 2-5 Mid-American Conference), as the team takes on Northern Illinois and guard Marke Freeman, who averages 16.5 points a game and 5.8 rebounds a game.

It's about containing her

Randall said. (Freeman) is just exceptional ... (and) just does everything for them - scores points

plays defense.

Freeman, the current MAC West player of the week, is making 45 percent of her shots on the year.

One of the only positives from Wednesday's game was the Bobcats' free throw shooting, something Randall would like to see continue against Northern Illinois (8-11, 2-4 MAC). Ohio sank nine of its 10 free throws against Eastern Michigan.

We stepped up and knocked our free throws out

she said. And hopefully we can continue to keep doing that.
