When the final buzzer sealed Ohio's one-point loss to Kent State Wednesday, the team's focus turned to preparing for Buffalo's visit this weekend.
Tenishia Benson said the Bobcats had not discussed their next opponent, but she did name the Bulls' main threat: senior forward Kourtney Brown.
She's a really good player
but to be honest we have not looked at Buffalo what they've done who they've played
Benson said Wednesday. We have not looked at a scouting report or anything at all.
With the success she has had this season, one could argue Brown is the scouting report. Her 21.7 points and 11.6 rebounds per game are Mid-American Conference bests, and she is one of only three MAC players averaging a double-double. She also leads the conference in field goal percentage (.620) and blocked shots (41).
Brown is also tops in the MAC in the sub-category of offensive rebounding, with 5.5 a game. Coach Semeka Randall noted Kent State was opportunistic on the offensive glass and that Buffalo is likely to be just as dangerous. The Bulls (8-8, 1-2 MAC) lead the conference in rebounding margin.
It doesn't matter if it's Kent State
getting ready to play Buffalo here
Akron: offensive rebounding is so important
Randall said.
It's a pride thing. It's not about how tall that kid is. It's
again
about understanding how important down the stretch it is and getting stops and sacrificing your whole body if you have to.
The Bobcats (4-12, 0-3 MAC) showed promise in its 55-54 loss to the Flashes Wednesday, but frequent turnovers handicapped the team's offensive output and led to easy 26 Kent State points. Randall said moving forward is the key to improvement.
You have to move on because in this day and generation you can't beat a dead horse here
she said. We have to grow up in terms of that. There's no drill. I can run 'em
but I'm not 'track coach
