The Bobcats arrived in Raleigh, N.C. so determined not to overlook their two weekend opponents, they might have overcompensated.
Ohio (6-3) easily won both of its matches Saturday, beating N.C. State (7-5) and Campbell (1-14) 29-12 and 57-0.
Our goal was to put it on both of those teams
said redshirt sophomore Gabe Ramos, who tallied a pin and a tech-fall. And show that we are a good team that we're better than what we've been showing with our three losses. Basically we wanted to go out there and dominate both teams.
So complete was the Bobcats' rout of Campbell that they earned bonus points in every match, notching eight falls, a major decision and a tech-fall. Senior Erik Schuth needed only 15 seconds to pin his opponent.
For us
it was important to go out and wrestle to our ability
not to their ability
coach Joel Greenlee said. We just wrestled hard as a team. We kind of kept the momentum going and it snowballed.
Ohio did not completely dominate Saturday's action, though. Ohio trailed N.C. State 12-9 after the Wolfpack won three of the first five matches, including an upset defeat of Ohio's All-American, Germane Lindsey.
But the Bobcats won the rest of the matches to hand N.C. State its fifth dual-meet loss.
Redshirt sophomore Chris Kline's pin at 157 pounds against Campbell was his first victory since Dec. 3, and his third of the season. Redshirt freshman Ryan Garringer's win at 184 pounds, his first since Dec. 29, improved his record to 12-9.
Junior Steve Wilson won his third-straight dual-meet match against Campbell to improve his season mark to 6-10. Schuth, redshirt junior Nick Purdue and redshirt freshman Jeremy Johnson all extended their perfect dual meet records.
Lindsey, who went 1-1 on the weekend, said the Bobcats were at a disadvantage against Campbell because they had no information on the Camels' wrestling habits.
You don't want to take anybody for granted
Lindsey said. I think all of our guys yesterday did a good job of that. Even though we were on a solid winning streak
none of our guys went out there and wrestled to their level. We all wrestled pretty much on a high level.
