Athens County Assistant Prosecutor Keller Blackburn announced this morning he will run for prosecutor in the 2012 election.
Although the petition date to run for prosecutor is 48 weeks away, Blackburn said he wants the Athens community to know that he will be running for the seat now and that he is dedicated to becoming the next prosecutor.
Blackburn has been the assistant prosecutor for four years. In his time he has protected child victims, convicted the most violent of Athens' criminals and created a drug intervention program for low felony drug users, he said.
Athens deserves a prosecutor with this kind of experience in the courtroom
Blackburn said.
As prosecutor, he said he promises to continue working with the Athens County Sheriff's Office and other organizations to fight the drug problem in the area.
C. David Warren has served as prosecutor since 2001, but announced Jan. 27 that he will not run in the upcoming election.
