For one Ohio University student, a microphone is an outlet for expression and a key to a dream.
Jonathan J-Doze Udeozor, a freshman studying education, uses the microphone to tell his story via quick lyrics and melodious beats.
When he came to OU last fall, Udeozor released his first set of tracks, New Release Date, after finding a common bond through music with his cousin, Chinedu Ifedi, a sophomore studying business marketing.
Discussing his relationship with his cousin, Udeozor said, We are really close (now) and (when we were younger)
we were always fighting.
When Udeozor came to OU and put out his music, though, the cousins formed a bond.
After he listened to my CD we realized we had a common goal Udeozor said. We want to do more than just get by. We have a dream
and we want it to be something big
something to remember.
Udeozor and Ifedi exemplify their goals in a philosophy the cousins call dreaming bigg.
Zach Bollheimer, a Jefferson Hall resident assistant who is in charge of open mic night, wrote in an e-mail, (Udeozor) is definitely a crowd pleaser and shows confidence during his performances. I can really see him getting somewhere with his music
and look forward to seeing where he ends up in the next few years.
While he is working toward his goal of fame, Udeozor takes his major seriously. He said he chose education because teaching is a family tradition, starting with his grandmother and continuing with his aunt.
Between classes he listens to beats on his BlackBerry and continues to write new lyrics, dreaming about the next time he'll take the stage.
