High School Basketball: Teams struggle but remain optimistic

The season started in turmoil for the Alexander Spartans.

They dropped the first five games, and their first win did not come until the third week of the season.

Since then, the Spartans have a record of 6-5, and if they win the rest of their games, they have to opportunity to finish at .500.

We have another game against Nelsonville-York

Athens and Amanda- Clearcreek. It's a chance for to us build momentum and to go 10-10 after the bad start coach Blaine Gabriel said.

Alexander had been fighting adversity even before the bad start to the season when players with varsity experience did not come out for the team.

They have overcome adversities Gabriel said. Jack (Hart) and Michael (Chapman) push other kids to get better.

Hart stands tall

The formula for the Spartans' wins has remained the same: Chapman orchestrating the offense

and Hart putting up big scoring numbers. In his last eight games

Hart averaged a triple double.

Averaging a triple double for even part of a season is impressive. Hart looks to find his way in Alexander school history.

We are looking into the record books, Gabriel said of Hart's impressive season. He has really stepped up his game.

Hart added another triple double to his season total in the win against Nelsonville-York on Tuesday night.

Shots not falling

Trimble has a similar way of winning games; the team relies on center Noah Guthrie to lead the team and then other players would feed off his play.

In the beginning of the season

shots fell for the Tomcats

and they were winning

but now the team has lost three straight games.

We were hitting shots and that opened things up (for us), coach Curt Moore said. Now the scoring has to come from other places.

The team has four difficult games left on the schedule those games still hold meaning for Trimble.

These games will determine how they will be remembered, Moore said.

Yesterday's panel marks the third day of Sex Week

a collaboration between POWER/GAMMA
