Ping to offer free food, prizes during Sunday's Super Bowl

Those not wanting to suffer the long wait time and cost of delivery food on Super Bowl Sunday can head to Ping Recreation Center for free food and prizes.

Ping Center will host a Super Bowl party at 6 p.m. Sunday in the lounge behind the climbing wall. The party will have food from local restaurants with the game projected on big-screen TVs, said Melissa Toretch, assistant director of Ping Center.

Food will include pizza, mini burgers and wings, according to the center's website. Soda and ice cream also will be served. Dairy Queen, Goodfellas, Leghorns, Pigskin and Wendy's will supply the snacks for the party.

There also will be a trivia contest with prizes such as T-shirts and gift cards, she said. Ice cream will be served at halftime, and the food will be available at kickoff.

We've been doing this for probably about 10 years ... and it's really grown throughout the years

Toretch said.

Ping Center is expecting about 250 to 300 people to attend, and the event cannot accommodate more than 300, Toretch said.

Of course the free food is great so students really enjoy that she said. I think this game will be a good game because the Steelers are in it and we have so many Steelers fans here at Ohio University. I think that will help the turnout and help the excitement of it.

Campus Recreation is sponsoring the event, which will be funded through the department's fund for social programming.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers will face off Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in Dallas for Super Bowl XLV.
