More than 100 Ohio University students and employees gathered in Baker University Center Ballroom to hear the opening remarks for the Defend Education, Ohio! Teach-In.
Judith Grant, a professor of women and gender studies, and Tyler Barton, a senior studying chemistry, kicked off the five-hour long event at 1 p.m. today. Both Grant and Barton helped organize the event, which included presentations about topics spanning from international concerns to OU's budget.
Joe McLaughlin, chair of Faculty Senate, and Loren Lybarger, a professor of classics and world religions, were just two of the 27 presentations given. McLaughlin and Lybarger spoke about faculty governance and education’s role in preventing racism, respectively.
The day concluded with attendees discussing what they learned and what Defend Education, Ohio! should do next.
Below are records of Grant and Barton's opening remarks as well as the presentations from McLaughlin and Lybarger.
