James Shaffer, charged with burglary and attempted kidnapping

Man faces charges of burglary, kidnapping

A 26-year-old man was charged with one count of aggravated burglary and one count of attempted kidnapping after he forcibly removed a woman from her home.

James Shaffer, of The Plains, was arrested Monday after he forced his way into a Chauncey house, located a female victim who was hiding in the closet and took her from the house against her will. The victim suffered injuries from the incident.

Shaffer appeared in Athens County Municipal Court before Judge William Grim on one count of aggravated burglary and one count of attempted kidnapping

yesterday.

No plea was entered on either charge.

Shaffer is being held on $75,000 bond at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Aggravated burglary is a first-degree felony and attempting kidnapping is a second-degree felony. Shaffer could spend a maximum of 18 years in prison and pay a maximum fine of $35,000 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

Shaffer is scheduled to appear in court March 10 at 2 p.m.
