O'Bleness announces new CEO

O'Bleness Memorial Hospital will have a new man at the helm starting next month.

The hospital announced Friday that John Yanes will take over as president and CEO beginning April 11.

Yanes, currently the president and CEO of Memorial Health Care System in Fremont, Ohio, has more than 20 years of hospital leadership experience and will oversee O'Bleness' business operations, according to a hospital news release.

"I welcome the opportunity to work with the O'Bleness health care team on the rewarding challenges ahead," Yanes said in a statement. "My family and I are excited about making new friends, forging new relationships and becoming active members of the Athens community."

Athens' 70-bed hospital entered a management relationship with the Columbus-based OhioHealth network last August. That agreement gives OhioHealth control of four leadership positions at O'Bleness, including CEO, as well as representation on the hospital's board of directors, according to the release.

Yanes replaces Larry Thornhill, who has served as O'Bleness' interim CEO since the management agreement with OhioHealth was announced last June.

"John is a highly respected CEO with a wealth of knowledge and will be an incredible asset to the O'Bleness Health System," Thornhill said in a statement.

"We at OhioHealth and at O'Bleness are happy to welcome him and are looking forward to a very happy sand productive relationship," he said.
