Ohio University will hold two open forums next week for the finalists for the director of government relations position.
Eric Burchard, interim director of government relations, and Jane Harf, director of University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio, were announced as finalists last week. Burchard and Harf will discuss their qualifications for the government relations position from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in 231 Baker University Center April 4 and 5, respectively, according to OU’s website.
Open forums for candidates at vice president and senior level positions are routine, said Becky Watts, chief of staff to OU President Roderick McDavis.
“The forums provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to engage with the finalists, ask them questions, hear their philosophies and approaches,” Watts said in an email. “Then, all attendees are provided a feedback form. The search committee reviews the feedback form to get a sense of how the attendees perceived each finalist.”
The forums also will give the finalists a chance to get a feel for OU, Watts said.
“We never lose sight of the fact that the interview process is a two-way street,” Watts said. “Just as the university community is evaluating the finalists, they also are evaluating us.”
The position involves working with state and national governments on behalf of OU and was formerly held by Teri Geiger, who left the university in December to work for U.S. Sen. Rob Portman. Geiger earned $146,560 a year.
