Student arrested for assaulting peace officers

An Ohio University student was arrested over the weekend for assaulting officers of the law after resisting arrest.

Accasia Swisher, 18, was arrested Friday for assault on a peace officer while being brought to the Athens Police Department.

Swisher was booked at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail around 11:45 p.m. Friday night. She is also charged with driving under suspicion, driving under the influence and resisting arrest, according to SEORJ’s website.

She was still detained at press time.

Swisher allegedly kicked two officers in the legs and a third in the chest as they were bringing her to APD, according to court documents. All three officers are peace officers.

Swisher appeared in court yesterday for the charge. She was given a bond of $5,000.

Assault on a peace officer is a fourth degree felony, which has a maximum prison sentence of 18 months and a maximum fine of $5,000 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

Swisher is scheduled to reappear in court for a preliminary hearing April 5 at 2 p.m.
