An Ohio University student was critically injured in an off-campus accident Wednesday morning.
The male student was transported to a Columbus hospital following an accident, according to a statement from the Office of Communications and Marketing. The statement does not include the nature or location of the incident.
However, Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi described his condition as “very serious.”
“We talked to his family yesterday, but we haven’t been able to make contact since,” Lombardi said, adding the student is undergoing tests.
A hit-and-run incident occurred Wednesday involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, according to the Athens Police Department. It was the only incident the department knew of involving a student Wednesday morning. However, police had not finished a police report or news release as of press time.
“We do not know the exact cause of the student’s injuries, but do not believe that they were sustained on campus,” states the release from OU Communications and Marketing.
The university has not released the student’s name but says it is in contact with family members.
“We are certainly wishing the student a full and speedy recovery,” Lombardi said. “Our thoughts are with him as he goes through this.”
