A Canton man has been charged with raping a 5-year-old boy at an Athens County church function this weekend.
Richard Leroy Merryman, 20, is behind bars at Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and is charged with raping the boy at the Albany Community Center, according to Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly.
The boy was attending an event sponsored by Albany Bethel Apostolic Church.
“Merryman is accused of enticing a boy into a restroom stall then performing oral sex on the child,” Kelly posted to his Facebook page earlier today.
The sheriff added that police are still looking into the possibility of the involvement of other victims, including a 4-year-old boy.
Merryman appeared in court this morning and was given a $500,000 bond.
