Committee to consider 13 students for trustee position

Applicants for Ohio University’s newest student trustee face stiff competition if they hope for the position.

The Student Member Selection Committee has accepted 13 applications for the position on the Board of Trustees, OU’s governing body. They must pick five finalists to interview and send to Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who will pick one to serve a two-year term. Kasich’s decision will be announced at the annual Leadership Awards Gala on May 18.

“We definitely have a very talented pool,” said Matt Beddingfield, chair of the committee. “It’s going to be tough to pick a top five.”

The committee will pick those candidates who are qualified for an interview with the committee and speak with them during the next week. Last year, the committee received 13 applications but only interviewed 11 applicants.

After their interviews are complete, the committee will select the five finalists, Beddingfield said.

The newly elected trustee will take the seat of outgoing trustee Kyle Triplett, who was selected in 2009. He or she will serve alongside Danielle Parker, who was selected for the position last year.
