CHARLES MCCARRON

Nelsonville man arrested for break-in

A Nelsonville man was arrested over the weekend for breaking into a home of an elderly neighbor.

Charles McCarron, 44, was arraigned in Athens County Municipal Court yesterday after allegedly breaking into a home Saturday.

He broke a window with a broom and proceeded to remove a television from the kitchen. When he encountered the resident, he threatened to “cut her throat,” according to court documents.

When being arrested, McCarron allegedly threatened the arresting officer by telling him he could “be taken care of with a .50 cal (rifle),” according to the documents.

McCarron was arrested on Saturday and booked at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail at about 3:30 p.m. He was still incarcerated at press time.

McCarron is being charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; two counts of intimidation, a third-degree felony; possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony; and theft from the elderly, a fifth-degree felony.

If convicted of all charges, McCarron could spend up to 22 years in prison and pay a maximum fine of $45,000, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

McCarron is scheduled to reappear in court at 2 p.m. April 18.
