Python nabbed by school

A 4-foot Burmese python found within the vicinity of an elementary school led to a Coolville woman’s arrest yesterday.

The woman, who lives next to Federal Hocking Elementary School, was arrested and charged with persistent disorderly conduct after her python was spotted loose in her yard, according to Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly’s Facebook page.

School officials said they were concerned about student safety on the playground.

Lt. Darrell Cogar found the python in a tree next to the school.

Kelly could not be reached for comment.

Persistent disorderly conduct is a fourth-degree misdemeanor. The woman could spend a maximum of 30 days in jail and pay a maximum fine of $250 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
