A 4-year-old girl died this afternoon from assault related injuries.
The girl was assaulted Monday and Ashley Jane Young, 25, of The Plains, was previously charged with attempted murder, according to a news release from Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly.
The girl was taken to O'Bleness Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries. She was unresponsive and had suspicious marks on her body indicating physical abuse, according to the release.
Today, a brain scan was conducted on the girl and no brain activity was detected. Life support was pulled at about 12:50 p.m., according to the release.
The child's body is in the custody of the Franklin County Coroner's Office, according to the report.
Young is being held at Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a $1 million bond.
