Athens Police spent $65,000 during this year's fest season

Athens' fest season will cost local police about $65,000.

The $65,000 estimate is very rough because the department is two weeks behind payroll and still paying for the costs associated with the fests, said Athens Police Cheif Tom Pyle.

The estimate includes the costs associated police enforcement during the spring festivals in Athens - including Highfest, Palmer Place Fest, Palmerfest, Oakfest and Millfest.

Pyle could not estimate the individual costs of specific aspects of the police enforcement and said that information may be available in the coming weeks.

Pyle said that he did not know how much fest enforcement cost in previous years.

The fest season in Athens remained calm this year, lacking the riots and fires that marked the fests in previous years. Law enforcement was out in full force to prevent any significant disturbances.
