Board nixes FACE, RSVP complaints

The Board of Elections denied three complaints regarding negative campaigning from the two competing Student Senate parties last night.

FACE registered a complaint with the board contending that a video released Tuesday by RSVP was negative campaigning. The video, which features RSVP vice presidential candidate Roger Jones posing shirtless in an imitation of the popular Old Spice body wash advertisements, was not deemed a violation of the rules.

“I felt it portrayed me in a bad light. Apparently, they did not,” FACE presidential candidate Matthew Wallace said. “It seemed to be kind of mocking.”

Wallace said he found the ruling “perplexing.”

Two complaints lodged by RSVP against FACE were also denied, RSVP treasurer candidate Chris Wimsatt said. He did not elaborate on the complaints.

A third complaint by RSVP is still under consideration by the board, said Board of Elections Chairman Chauncey Jackson, who also refused to state the subject of RSVP’s complaints.

“We are going to be seeking some additional information from both tickets,” Jackson said.
