Brough House soaked after clogged sink floods 3 floors

Residents in one Ohio University residence hall awoke early Friday morning to an unpleasant surprise — someone had flooded a third-floor bathroom.

Brough House residents awoke Friday at 4 a.m. to flooding in their residence hall.

OU custodial staff came at about 5 a.m. to clean up the mess and set up fans in the hallways to dry the carpets after suctioning up all the water.

“The water came into my room, and I noticed it around 5 a.m.,” said third floor resident Shawn Allen, who lives two doors down from the bathroom.

“Nothing in my room was damaged, but two of my towels are now soaked with water.”

The most damage was done to the residents’ rooms on the first and second floors, he added.

First floor resident Kyle Scurlock said he was awakened this morning by maintenance cleaning the hallway outside of his room.

“Nothing was damaged in my room — my shoes just got wet, and my carpet soaked up a lot of the water,” he said.

“The thing was the most irritating was that the maintenance people keep knocking on the doors to make sure that everyone was aware of the situation. I just wanted to go back to sleep.”

Scurlock also said he is worried about who will pay the damages, adding that the OU police will most likely not catch the culprit.

“I don’t want to pay for the damages that someone else did,” Scurlock said. “But how are we supposed to figure it out? No one is going to confess.”

OU Police Chief Andrew Powers said there are currently no suspects.
