Crashes injure 3, close route lanes

Two collisions sent three people to local hospitals and shut down roads during the weekend.

The first accident took place Friday afternoon on U.S. Route 33 near Nelsonville.

At about 2:10 p.m., Raymond Misner, 33, of Columbus, went over the centerline while driving his Jeep Liberty eastbound on U.S. Route 33. Misner’s car struck a semi-truck driven by William T. Eades, of Virginia.

A Ford Van driven by James Malone, of Belpre, hit Misner’s car from behind after Misner collided with the semi, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Misner, who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected from his car and seriously injured. He was taken to Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville and then transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Eades and Malone were not injured in the accident, according to the release.

The accident closed down both lanes of U.S. Route 33 for about three and a half hours. Detours were set up by Highway Patrol in both directions. The accident is still under investigation.

The second accident happened Friday night on state Route 13.

A Ford F-150 driven by Summer Hatfield, of Millfield, struck a Kia Sedona driven by Jennifer Bartlett, of Glouster, from behind while traveling south on state Route 13 at about 7:50 p.m.

Both suffered minor injuries. Hatfield was taken to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital and Bartlett was taken to Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville.

The accident closed the road for about an hour. Hatfield was ticketed for failure to maintain the assured clear distance, according to a release.
