FACE tactics under debate

RSVP is waiting for a ruling on complaints it brought to the Student Senate Board of Elections about its opponent’s campaign strategies.

The complaints were related to early campaigning and negative campaigning, said Chris Wimsatt, RSVP’s treasurer candidate, who would not say what specifically they addressed.

Negative campaigning includes “nasty and malicious behavior” and “purposefully wrong accusations,” said Chauncey Jackson, Ohio University’s Board of Elections chairman.

FACE presidential candidate Matthew Wallace discounted RSVP’s complaints.

“(They are) mud slinging,” he said. “I think they’re just trying to pick fights.”

None of RSVP’s complaints dealt with FACE’s tabling strategy, which includes using multiple organizations to reserve tables at Baker University Center, Wimsatt said.

“Our issue with that is it was both an unethical strategy … and also against Baker rules,” he said, adding that senate election rules do not prohibit the strategy.
