Hocking president might be removed

Despite receiving support from the Hocking College Board of Trustees during last June’s meeting, College President Ron Erickson is facing possible removal from his position just one year later.

Erickson was made aware of plans to remove him from his current role as president, assign an interim president for the remainder of his contract and reassign him to the role of “consultant,” according to an email from Erickson.

Erickson’s contract expires June 30, 2012.

“My only conclusion is that change itself has been an intolerable outcome of my arrival here and that the long-standing relationships between the board and officers of the former administration outweighed the undeniable need for change to occur,” Erickson stated in the letter.

“It would appear that in the minds of some trustees, a change in leadership was never intended to create change throughout the institution.”

The president goes on to encourage students and faculty to become proactive about the possible need for change at Hocking in three ways: contacting board members, contacting government officials and attending this Friday’s meeting.

Board members could not be reached for comment.
